MGW 10

The MGW 10 motorised platform car is a two-axled universal vehicle for installation of catenary, for maintenance and inspection of overhead lines and for transport of people and material.

Economical in operation, this machine concept, developed on the basis of many years of experience, provides maximum safety for all jobs in connection with the installation and maintenance of catenary. In practical operation two identical units of this machine are used and they are coupled together for the necessary transfer runs.

Due to the underfloor positioning of the complete drive unit - engine, gearbox, driving shaft - sufficient space is left for all necessary superstructures.

The MGW 10 has a hydrodynamic drive. The enclosed, soundproofed spacious cabin houses a driver's control desk and a crew room.

In addition to this there is a column lifting platform designed in three parts, hydraulically adjustable in height, which can be laterally displaced additionally on two of these levels. The machine is also equipped with a fully hydraulic contact wire and a carrying cable holder, an earthed pantograph and a contact wire measuring unit.

Method of work

The new design of the column lifting platform enables efficient work at the catenary as the operating staff can reach the carrying cable, contact wire and the fixed points such as rigging points and wheel anchoring terminals easily and safely.

Due to the independent manoeuvrability of the work baskets, it is possible to work simultaneously on three different positions at varying heights. A restriction to the parallel track for the two laterally extendible baskets prevents any fouling of the adjacent clearance gauge.

All work baskets have the appropriate sockets for electrical and pneumatic hand tools, illuminated tool trays and the controls for the vehicle crawling gear during work. With the mounted fully hydraulic contact wire and carrying cable holders it is possible to support all horizontal and vertical forces which can occur during installation and maintenance work. The hydraulically telescoping arms are fitted with roller clamps to guide contact wire and carrying cable and can be operated by remote control.

The distance between top of rail and contact wire, as well as the deviation of the lateral wire position, is determined with the help of the contact wire measuring unit.

These values are measured as follows:

  • by the earthed pantograph during control runs under conditions similar to operation
  • by the measuring bar for assembly work.
