A new era has begun with the signing of the contract to increase manufacturing capacities at Plasser American on August 28, 2020. The expansion is their commitment to the Chesapeake, VA site and products "Made in USA". As a big family and part of the railroad system that show Plasser American’s longstanding regional footprint.

The cost-efficiency of a tamping tool can be measured by the number of tamping cycles. The goal must always be a greater number of tamping cycles and longer intervals between replacements.

Project

Besides a new office building, the entire assembly area including the warehouse will be expanded to 229,000 square foot. Output will be increased by more than 100 % due to the new assembly production flow, the efficient design of the workspaces and additional employees.

The three main steps are:

  1. New Office building by 2021
  2. Expansion of the assembly area and the warehouse by 2022
  3. Campus enhancements by 2023

The estimated investment will be 52.6 million US dollars.

Regional footprint

The expansion will provide approximately 98 new jobs for the area. All construction work will be carried out by local companies. Thomas Blechinger, President of Plasser American, says, “This historical project is our proof of trust in the North American railroad system and confidence in the U.S. economy. I am proud of our company's development in the United States over the last six decades and here in Chesapeake for already 50 years. This milestone is our chance to show our commitment to the region and to support local talents, employees and suppliers.”
